“One problem with
gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn

future has run out on us.” Michael

Winter Edition 2010-2011 January 2011
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Can you believe that it is now 2011? The last time I was working on the
newsletter, it was early Fall and quite pleasant weather after a hot Arkansas
Summer. Now it is Winter and time to grab that soft, warm throw for your
shoulders and/or legs. Keeps life interesting just to see what
the next day brings.
I feel like I am reaching way back into
the past to remember what has happened since early October. We did not have our
regular luncheon, choosing instead to accept the invitation to join the Class
of 55 in part of their 55th Reunion celebrations which occurred from
Friday through Sunday breakfast.
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the picnic at Old Post Park on Saturday
and the dinner Saturday night. I
reconnected with several from other classes, and especially enjoyed visiting
with a long ago friend, Vivian Dare Arnold.
About 20 previous ‘youngsters’ from the
First Assembly of God in Russellville also had a reunion on that Friday night,
so it turned out to be a very good weekend for seeing long ago friends.

Denney (Harton)
Jordan had a lump removed from her breast on October 21. Bobby had had back surgery just before his
class reunion. As far as I know both are doing well.
Betty (Allison)
Grabbe’s daughter Laura was ill for a while with a kidney stone but it was
‘blasted’ and she has recovered very well.
Martha
(Braden) Reid’s 14 year-old
grandson had several bone
marrow tests done and they were all negative. He seems to be very healthy
and doing great in school. They will do more blood
work January 10 to see what his blood
count is then.
Larry Woodward says, “The
Lord gave Lois and me a good trip to Gardner, KS to
visit our daughter, son-in-law & grandson Thanksgiving
week. We usually go over the Christmas holidays but we are sure glad we didn’t
this year! We visited some relatives in Tulsa, OK
on the way back. We wish everyone and your families a very blessed New Year.
May God bless you richly.”
Jane BB The electricity was off for almost an hour at my
house on Thanksgiving but I had allowed plenty of time so dinner was not held
up or ruined for my few guests. I lost my little Kacie, sister to Sydni, October 4. Their
birthday was November 13 when Sydni was 13 yrs old. Has been a tough time as I had had them since they were 3-1/2 mo.
old. I had a good 6 mo. check up
recently. If I get the same in June we will go back to a once a year mammogram.
I will see the oncologist in a couple of weeks and hope that my Vit. D level
has been raised.
Ray and Beverly Hackworth were in Jamaica in October
when he received an e-mail message from the State Bank Department asking him to
call. He was rehired out of retirement in November. Just goes to show that age
and experience does have plenty to offer.

I had the sad task of notifying our classmates of
the passing of Dorothy Clark Fike on October 30, 2010. Dorothy had fought a valiant battle with
cancer. Our deepest sympathy goes out to David and their family. We will remember her fondly.
Christmas is behind us by now and I trust it was a blessed one
for all. I must confess that I over-indulged (as always), particularly on the
sweets. My downfall!

Betty and John Grabbe had daughter Laura and son David
and their fur-babies with them.
Cassy and Bella received new sweaters and showed them off. Lovely fur kids.

Dalene (Davenport) and Sam Horton have missed Alberta, Canada,
since leaving in 2003. Fortunately, their daughter
and family moved to Calgary in September, and they were invited to spend
the holidays with them. Dalene
says that everything is
still lovely and the Canadians are some of the
nicest people she has ever met. As soon as
they stepped out of the
airport, they stepped into snow, and continued stepping in snow everywhere
they went.
For a special Christmas present from their daughter and
son-in-law, they were treated to The Nutcracker ballet.
The following pictures
show all of them at the Nutcracker performance, and returning from
sledding down
to a frozen lake with
the family.

Jane BB My family was all home for
our Christmas dinner on December 26. My
grandson Payton and family
had moved back from El
Paso, TX 2 weeks before Christmas. Granddaughter Erin and hubby
Eddy were here from
Houston. His parents just bought a house in Russellville. Daughter Kathy came
from
Vicksburg, MS, son Randy
from Russellville, and the rest are local. This is my bunch:

Payton, Jessica (wanna-be),
Jeremy, Haylee, Randy, Leigh Ann, Kathy, Eddy,
Haylee & Alakai
Tammy, Alakai, Jane, Karen,
Sydni, Erin, & Freckles Great-grandchildren
Aunt Kathy gave Alakai a
Jumperoo and did he ever go to town on it.
He is 7 mo. old now.
Speaking of 7 mo. old
great-grandsons, Betty Grabbe also sent me a picture of their little Nathan
and his parents, Allison
and Adam. What a lovely family!

John Jennings with Laverne, son John and his wife
Debbie will be going to New Orleans January 8 for the wedding of John’s sister
Sarah’s daughter Elizabeth Carter to Adam Swensek. Elizabeth is a Professor at the LSU School of law and Adam is a
litigator in a large New Orleans law firm.

A while back a classmate commented to me that the
same people are always at the luncheons, and the same people are always written
about in the newsletter. Consider this.
If I never hear from you or never see you at a luncheon, I have nothing from
you to share. Everyone is welcome. If you’re showing your age, so what! We’ve all earned our wrinkles and gray
hair. If I don’t say enough, tell me
more. If I tell it wrong, I’ll try to do better. The rest of us can pray with you, cry with you, laugh with you,
travel with you through your stories, and we will understand your aches and
pains and feel fortunate if they are a bit more than our own. We share old memories and dream of the “good
ole days.” After all, we’re 1956
RHS Classmates. Jane ![]()
